We’ve configured our ideal PC for use with Ableton by selecting what we believe to be the very best components for the job.  Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) systems need to be able to flawlessly process data and keep all tracks perfectly in time. This requires a fast multi core processor with a top notch motherboard and first rate storage array.  The processor in this system is a very fast 7000 generation AMD Ryzen 7 with 8 cores and a high clock speed.  The motherboard is a high performance model designed for high data throughput without bottlenecks.  It has an excellent inbuilt audio circuit and triple high performance M.2 storage slots.

The storage has been configured as a four drive setup, this is the ideal setup for an Ableton system. Don’t skimp on storage as glitches can occur in complex tracks if your storage is unable to keep up.  In this system Windows 11 is loaded to one of the 480GB high performance SSD and this is the drive we recommend installing the Ableton Live application and all third-party plugins. The second high performance SSD is also a 480GB drive which we recommend is used to store samples and sound libraries, including the User Library.

The third drive in this system is also a 480GB SSD.  Use this drive for your audio recording and file caching. Using a separate drive will prevent problems caused by trying to read and write to the same storage drive at the same time.  The fourth drive is a 4TB hard drive which should be used as your archive of completed work and also can act as a backup for your SSD data.
