Threadripper™ requires a compatible motherboard with a TRX40 or TRX50 socket (for the latest 7000 Series CPUs). The soon-to-be-launched WRX90 chipset motherboards will be compatible with only the Pro 7000 WX Series Processors. Owing to the size of the chip, you will need a motherboard with a full-sized ATX or EATX form factor.
The Threadripper™ Pro was designed for professional workstations and so offers some additional features compared to the none ‘pro’ version. These differences include; support for up to 2TB of memory, up to 96 total cores for the pro, 128 PCIe lanes for multi-GPU support and ECC RAM support.
We would recommend at least a 750W power supply, though you may need more depending on your graphics card requirements
With 148 PCIe lanes, the Threadripper Pro 7000 WX Series can theoretically support up to eight double slot GPUs, though the actual number will be dependent on the motherboard used.
